NPM 2018: I Wish You Were Infinite (Day 2)

I Wish You Were Infinite
Written August 19, 2017

I wish you were infinite
like mountain echoes
with each wind calling back
to its sisters
between ice and stone.

I wish you were infinite
like walls of waves
over endless seas of sand,
cresting and breaking
on every shore.

I wish you were infinite
like raindrops from storm clouds,
or needles from evergreens,
and like so many things in nature,
you are.

But you are only infinite
in the circle of my grief,
following through peaks and valleys,
until there is nothing left
but memory.
